Eco-sustainable packaging

Skin packaging on a Packlife cellulose support

The challenge

Drastically reducing plastic in the industrial packaging of fresh foods, while maintaining the barrier, seal integrity and shelf life required by skin, MAP and vacuum technologies.

The solution

A cellulose-based skin card and heat-sealable tray, recyclable with paper or compostable, in standard and custom formats, with a reduction in plastic of up to 70%.

A predominantly cellulose-based packaging system for industrial fresh food lines, made up of two components: the skin card and the heat-sealable tray.

Skin card

A cellulose-based support combined with film, available in three versions:

  • pure virgin fibre cellulose base with barrier;
  • multilayer;
  • recycled cellulose with barrier.

Skin types include card and tray: standard card or custom die-cut card, in standard and custom formats at the client's request.

Tray

Heat-sealable cellulose-based multilayer material, suitable for use in skin, MAP, vacuum gas and hermetic sealing. The top is available in film and in cellulose multilayer.

The tray is recyclable with paper or compostable, with heights from a minimum of 10 mm to a maximum of 40 mm, in standard and custom formats at the client's request.

The reduction in plastic reaches up to 70%.

The result

Independent laboratory certification of the shelf life of cheese stored in paper at 150 days.
