PIZZAPACK

PIZZAPACK container for takeaway pizza

The challenge

Overcoming the limits of traditional takeaway containers, caught between poorly recyclable laminated materials and insufficient barriers against grease, moisture and condensation that compromise the fragrance and integrity of the product, penalising its aroma and taste.

The solution

A single-material container in cellulose fibre certified for food contact, biodegradable, with an effective barrier against water, oil and grease and a structure assembled by folding alone.

An innovative container in single-layer cellulose material, designed for transporting pizza, calzone, pinsa, piadina and hot or cold bakery products in general. A solution that keeps the product's characteristics intact, eliminates the risk of contamination and answers the need for genuinely sustainable food packaging: packaging that preserves quality, safety and sustainability.

The challenge

Traditional takeaway food containers have numerous limitations. Many are made from multilayer or multi-material structures, in some cases with plastic or metallised components that can compromise recyclability and biodegradability. They also often fail to guarantee an effective barrier against grease, moisture and condensation, risking alteration of the product's aroma, flavour and texture.

The result is a loss of fragrance and crispness, along with possible contamination of smell and taste that reduces the quality of the consumer's experience.

The solution

We developed a single-material container in cellulose fibre certified for food contact, fully biodegradable and engineered to deliver high technical performance.

The material guarantees an effective barrier against water, oil, grease and moisture without the use of plastic, adhesives or other foreign materials. The self-supporting structure is assembled exclusively by folding, while the base can incorporate micro-textures or channels that help vapour escape, keeping the product dry and fragrant.

The technology is available in various configurations for pizza, pinsa, piadina and calzone.

The result

The new container offers concrete advantages across the whole chain:

  • keeps bakery products fragrant and crisp for longer;
  • preserves taste and aroma;
  • no contamination of smell;
  • no contamination of taste;
  • maximum food safety (no migration of material into the food);
  • guarantees a certified barrier against water, oil, grease and condensation;
  • is made from a single biodegradable cellulose material certified for food use;
  • eliminates the use of plastic and adhesives;
  • improves the hygienic and sanitary safety of food packaging;
  • represents a sustainable and distinctive solution for the HORECA market, food delivery and takeaway;
  • guarantees a greater thermal barrier than the packaging currently in use.
